After three months of negotiations, the social networking site Facebook has agreed to adopt a program that aims to improve online safety for its younger users. This new "safety button" - also known as "panic button" - allow young people reporting suspicious behavior or inappropriate advances to Reuters.

This application is a victory for the British Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), which has long demanded such a measure, in order to avoid cases such as what recently happened to Ashleigh Hall. This young man, aged 17, was abducted and later raped and killed by a man who posed as a teenager on Facebook and with whom Ashleigh had caught friendship.
An automatic message will appear soon in the individual profiles of all teens who use social network, inviting them to add the application. Once added, the application will provide them with help, advice and support to stay safe online.
