BP is optimistic about a possible stagnation of the stain caused by the explosion of crude oil rig Deepwater Horizon on 20 April.
Through the technique botton kill, British Petroleum (BP) will try to catch the gushing oil by the end of this month. The botton kill technique consists of injecting a high dose of mud and cement through wells of support. This strategy is considered difficult and dangerous, but already has a significant record in estancagem wells.
Speaking to U.S. newspaper Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Bob Dudley, director of BP's operational involvement in the Gulf of Mexico, said: "In a perfect world without interruptions, can be prepared for the pit stop between 20 and July 27. " However, the operation is now endangered by the hurricane season for the Atlantic area, which officially started on June 1st.
Yesterday, a new tropical depression formed in the Gulf of Mexico, reaching winds of 55 km / h, this depression that came even more disturbing to clean the spill.
Meanwhile, the oil group will put into practice a series of contingency plans in an attempt to stanch the spill as soon as possible. One of these plans is to link the wells of a pipeline to an existing pipeline on the seabed.
On July 20, BP plans to issue a report of the whole process so far made in order to solve the problem. According to the WSJ, is also the day that British Prime Minister David Cameron will go to Washington to discuss with President Barack Obama the future of the BP Group.
